Victorian Heritage

The Crescent House Hotel was started as a small bed and breakfast in 1883 by Mrs Lewis and her children and was later expanded by Sir James Meeks into the hotel that is seen today. However the hotel name and running has been taken back to its roots, as the hotel is now run as a family business under Liam and Sylvia McGonigle.

The Hotel is ideally situated in the popular coastal resort of Ilfracombe, just off the end of the high street. It is also linked to the harbour via Wilder Road. In the peak of the season it is bustling with a traditional seaside atmosphere with the charming harbour view, the lazy pavement cafes and flower strewn shopping streets.

The Hotel contains many original features dating back to the Victorian era, which include a split level Victorian conservatory, with mosaic flooring and pitch pine wainscot, heavily turned ‘newel posts’, bronze figurines and wrought-iron verandas. The exquisite Victorian bay windows make this one of the most popular public rooms in the hotel to enjoy the sea view of Capstone Hill in the summer months.
